Palimpsest

So, somehow, Google has already spidered this blog that I haven't even made public yet, spidered and slurped in on Friday. How the heck did that happen, I ask myself?

The only results I could find linking to it show that it is because I inadvertantly created a palimpsest of the Google variety: way back in time I had something in this directory on this server. And by sheer ironic coincidence, it was a rant in the robots development list in 1996 about copyrights and the Internet Archive Project -- that page got Googled on Friday as well, and it had a link to a page that no longer exists in this directory (here's the ironic part -- I had to search that very same Internet Archive database to find a copy of what I used to have there.) That bad link was apparantly enough to have Google try for a peek into the directory, where it found either the index page or the RSS feed. So I guess this blog is officially launched and everyone just forgot to tell me.
